equal and opposite by Erin McKay
I learned today in Physics 1
that everything is pulling towards
each other, all of the time,
and I wonder how that works
for us because your center of gravity
is on the back of my neck and
mine must sit behind my tongue.
Fg folds my body into itself and
you watch and praise me
for my contortion. But, the Earth
is begging me to make contact,
to touch down and dig my heels in.
It wants my ear pressed to the
muddy ground, listening to its love
of my legs, my lungs.
You want me in zero gravity,
with nothing to do but crash
into you again and again.
